Here’s How You Can Get the Most Out of Your Sleep Apnea Machine

If you have just started using a sleep apnea machine in British Colombia, it can be hard to get adjusted at first. The mask may feel uncomfortable while you’re wearing it, and you may also have a harder time falling asleep while connected to the CPAP machine. The good news is that there are several ways that you can get adjusted so that you sleep peacefully and wake up in the morning feeling well rested and refreshed.

Practice

As with most things, wearing a sleep apnea mask will require practice. You should put the mask on several times throughout the day. The more you practice, the easier it will be for you to wear it while you are sleeping. Eventually, the mask will feel natural.

Make Sure That the Mask Fits Properly

Many people encounter problems because they wear a mask that does not properly fit their face. If the mask is too big, you can tighten it by pulling the straps. However, you cannot wear a mask that is too small because air will leak out. You will need to get a different mask if it is too small for you.

Be Consistent

You should use your sleep apnea machine every time you go to sleep. Even if you take a nap during the day, you should still wear your sleep apnea mask. However, it is best to avoid napping when you first start using the CPAP machine. If you are tired at night during the first time you are connected to the machine, it will be easier for you to fall asleep.

Use a Saline Nasal Spray

Nasal congestion is a common problem among people who use CPAP machines. You can use a nasal spray if this applies to you.

Use a Humidifier

A CPAP machine can also cause nose and throat dryness. A humidifier can help combat these sensations, and many CPAP machines come with their own humidifiers.
