Natural disasters are becoming prevalent daily due to climate change and other factors. They are affecting many people economically and physically. Issues that occur include injuries and disruption of livelihoods. These people need help rebuilding their lives as they lost everything. That is where the government, non-governmental organizations, and individuals offer disaster relief India.
What is disaster relief?
It refers to the monies or services to persons and communities that have gone through losses due to disasters. They might include hurricanes, floods, drought, earthquakes, riots, and tornados. Countries such as India have agencies responsible for coordinating disaster relief and planning. In addition, the country has statutes that outline the right procedures for a disaster declaration and emergency orders.
Stages of Disaster relief
There are four stages of disaster relief. They include:
Response
The first response to disasters is searching and rescue. After, they give immediate relief to the affected, such as food, water, medical care, and temporary shelter. The location of the disaster determines the organizations that can provide help first. International organizations bring supplies and trained personnel from around the world to help.
Recovery
After immediate relief, you need to think about stabilizing the people or community. Then, NGOs can provide loans and grants for people to rebuild their lives. Also, healthcare providers work towards giving the infrastructure needed to allow operations.
Risk mitigation
Risk reduction and mitigation help communities stop or reduce the adverse effects of disasters. For example, by building earthquake-resistant buildings, raising the height of bridges, or supporting marshlands to prevent flooding. Also, communities get involved in bringing peace by engaging in peace-building efforts.
Preparedness
It refers to actions taken before an emergency. It helps ensure an effective response and steps to reduce damage. Things they need to do for readiness include:
• Stocking on important supplies
• Establishing disaster response protocols and systems
• Carrying out periodic disaster aversion drills
• Setting up pooled insurance systems.
Disaster relief is essential. So, governments should work on the four phases to help handle disasters smoothly.
