What Size Moving Boxes You Need For a Chicago Move

Packing up all your belongings and moving across town or across the country can be a daunting proposition, but when you have all the right supplies, it sure makes it a lot easier. Kind of like a kid the night before school starts the next day lining up all his school supplies, he feels he can conquer anything the school throws at him. So is it when you have all the right moving supplies to make attack the move.

The first step is to line up quality boxes. No, moving with trash bags does not exactly inspire confidence, so instead, you should have the best moving boxes in Chicago. This does not mean going down to Trader Joe’s and seeing what they’ve got in the dumpster. Again, old, softened and smelly banana boxes are not going to be your best bet. Instead, look into getting quality new boxes. If you’re moving an apartment, typically, you can get away with 20 or so medium boxes (18x18x16) and maybe 15 large boxes (18x18x24).

While it’s tempting to pile all your books, frying pans and heavy stuff into the large boxes, that’s actually the last thing you want to do. Instead, put books in smaller boxes such as a 16x12x12. This makes them much easier to carry and less likely to bust through the bottom. Use the medium sized boxes to carry those pots and pans, small appliances and pictures from the wall. For your clothes, stores selling moving boxes in Chicago even offer a wardrobe carrier. How easy it that to just take your clothes right from the closet and hang them in the box.

For your grandmother’s fine china or the crystal you bought in Belgium on your honeymoon, entrust them to heavier duty boxes than the typical moving boxes. Dish and glass pack boxes are specifically made for this, giving you extra protections on the long haul. They also come with dividers for the glasses and hand holds for easier carrying.

Other supplies to make your movie go easier include bubble wrap and shrink wrap. Both will keep your belongings safe from transitions during the move. Newsprint paper is also a good idea to wrap dishes and to fill empty spaces within boxes.
