When you’re in the field of youth work there are many things that are necessary to have an effective career but there are only a few that are more important than intercultural training programs.
Learning to work with and teach the youth to engage with many different cultures teaches inclusion, equity, understanding, empathy, and much more. As well as teaching youths about different cultures and their traditions. It also helps to normalize differences meaning as they grow up, they’ll be able to pass on the same level of acceptance to the next generation.
Where it has been popular in the past to promote the assimilation of cultures into the mainstream, which would lead to minority cultures being essentially consumed by mainstream culture, leading them to lose their cultural identity. Instead, intercultural training programs promote different cultures co-existing, recognizing the basic human need for a strong cultural identity and sustainable links to cultural communities, both past, and present.
Online intercultural training programs encourage a harmonious society to be something that everybody should work on, collectively, rather than the responsibility of individuals or figureheads.
Interculturalism can help to assist other elements of society, too, promoting equality and inclusion in issues of sexual orientation, gender, and disability. This level of compassion is widely found within business, education, etc., affecting policies, planning, activities, and more.
Youth work isn’t about accepting the status quo, it’s about taking issues of the past, finding a solution to them, and using them to improve the lives of the youths that we work with.
